NewJeans Responds to Shakatak's Allegations of Song Similarities with NewJeans' 'Bubblegum

Girl group NewJeans' agency, Ador, has responded to reports that British jazz punk band 'Shakatak' has raised concerns about similarities between their hit song and NewJeans' 'Bubblegum'.

On July 18th, agency Ador stated, "The legal team representing the writers and publishers of 'Bubblegum' responded to Shakatak's content proof submission on June 17th." They added that NewJeans is requesting a credible analysis report from Shakatak to support their claim that 'Bubblegum' did not use Shakatak's composition without permission.

Adore further noted that Shakatak was supposed to provide a report by June 21st, but no report has been received yet. They emphasized, "The burden of proof for plagiarism lies with the party raising the issue, and Shakatak should respond accordingly."

Suspicion arose among netizens after NewJeans released 'Bubblegum', drawing comparisons to Shakatak's 'Easier Said Than Done'. Shakatak has also responded to the controversy, stating, "We will investigate the matter."

According to a report from Munhwa Ilbo, the UK Wise Music Group has engaged a domestic law firm in June and formally lodged a complaint with Ador, its parent company HYBE, the Korea Music Copyright Association, and Sony Music Publishing Hong Kong Limited (Korea Office).
