On May 27, a 33-year-old female patient who had been admitted to Yang's hospital in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, died after being treated for an addiction to diet pills. The patient had been hospitalized on May 10 and passed away 17 days later. CCTV footage reportedly shows the patient in distress, clutching her swollen abdomen and struggling with pain. She eventually lost consciousness and died due to a suspected intestinal obstruction, according to the autopsy results.
Though the hospital’s name and its head were not initially disclosed, it was later speculated that the facility in question was Yang Jae-woong's. As criticism mounted, Yang remained silent until he issued a public apology on July 29 through his agency, Mystic Story. In his statement, Yang expressed deep regret and sorrow, stating, "Both I and the former medical staff are profoundly troubled by the incident. We extend our heartfelt apologies to the bereaved families."
Yang continued, "As the head of the hospital, I take this case very seriously. We are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation, including providing all relevant CCTV footage and medical records. We are committed to adhering to medical and legal standards throughout this process."

The timing of the announcement led to accusations of insensitivity towards the grieving families. Social media users have criticized Yang and Hani, with comments such as, "How could you announce your wedding so soon?" and "Show some respect for the deceased and their families."
However, some voices have defended the couple, suggesting that Hani may not have been aware of the situation and urging that criticism be directed at the situation rather than the individuals involved.
Yang Jae-woong and Hani, who began their relationship in 2022, are planning to marry in September.
