SM Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as SM) announced on the 10th that "I would like to inform you of the results of the complaint regarding the theft of personal information related to one EXO member and three NCT members."
SM said "We appointed Sejong Corporation (Limited) to file a complaint for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. for stealing personal information of artists by impersonating a courier in a live broadcast that took place in April 2023."
According to SM, the defendants impersonated a courier to steal the artist's address and leak it on live broadcasts. The police identified four people who participated in the broadcast as suspects, and the two who called the artist directly were sent to the prosecution as prosecutors.
At the subsequent hearing, the defendants admitted all the crimes and said they committed the crime out of fan confidence. However, in the end, each of the two defendants was fined 3 million won.
SM continues to call or visit artists' phone numbers or home addresses without permission for a long time. These acts are serious criminal acts that instill fear in the artist and cause mental damage. "We continue to monitor and take legal action against artists' rights and honor with zero tolerance to protect their artists and await the results of various complaints" he warned.
