Ji Yoo-chan competed in the men's 50m freestyle preliminary round on the 1st. Commentator Jung Yoo-in "Ji Yoo-chan is a player with good early speed. As fast as it is in the beginning, the key is how long it lasts in the second half. I'll look forward to your good record." Unfortunately, however, Ji Yoo-chan recorded 22.16 seconds in the preliminary round, failing to win a ticket to the semifinals given to the top 16 in 28th place overall. Jung Yoo-in expressed regret, saying, `I was close to the lead in the beginning, but I fell in the second half.'
Ji Yoo-chan's preliminary match was broadcast only on KBS 2TV. And thanks to the high interest in the Olympic swimming event, it garnered more than 2.07 million viewers, the highest number of Korean games broadcasted on the same day by all broadcasters, recording an 8.1% viewership. KBS's Paris Olympics swimming broadcast is handled by commentator Jung Yoo-in and caster Lee Dong-geun, who are called 「Women Ma Dong-seok」.
