G-Dragon to Launch JusPeace Foundation with Inaugural Event

Big Bang’s G-Dragon is set to establish the JusPeace Foundation.

Announced last December, the foundation has been preparing for its launch through advisory meetings, expert interviews, and various business preparations since January. The inaugural event for the Just Peace Foundation, with G-Dragon as honorary chairman, will take place on August 5th.

The event will feature over 50 experts from diverse fields to support the foundation's public service projects, fundraising, and public relations efforts. It will commence with an opening speech by Choi Yong-ho, CEO of Galaxy Corporation and chairman of the foundation, and will include presentations from Oh Hee-young, CEO of the JusPeace Foundation, and lawyer Cho Won-hee, CEO of the foundation’s audit and law firm, who will discuss the “Creator and Intellectual Property Prevention” initiative. Choi Jae-cheon, honorary professor at Ewha Womans University and chairman of the Life Diversity Foundation, will also speak.

The JusPeace Foundation aims to focus on areas vital to society that are often overlooked by other organizations. Its goals include enhancing copyright culture to foster creative talents and contributing to society through artistic endeavors. The foundation plans to support public interest uses of copyrights, aid creative artistic talents, and offer mental health support through art and musical therapy for adolescents struggling with drug addiction.

G-Dragon, the foundation’s honorary chairman, explained the foundation's purpose, stating, "Artists can bring happiness and peace to the world through their art. Beyond music, I wanted to make a tangible impact through community service and the creation of this foundation."

Initially, names like 'Kwon Ji Yong Foundation' and 'G-Dragon Foundation' were considered. However, G-Dragon chose the name JusPeace, a blend of 'Justice' and 'Peace,' to reflect the foundation's mission.

In his remarks, G-Dragon emphasized, "Even if it's not grand, justice in our lives means addressing unfairness and correcting misunderstandings. In a world full of injustices, we need people who believe in and support us. As a musician and artist, I hope to foster an unbiased world where people believe in each other and share love."

Choi Yong-ho, Chairman of the Foundation and Chief Happiness Officer at Galaxy Corporation, highlighted the importance of addressing young people's mental health through art. "In line with G-Dragon's vision, we aim to make a unique social contribution by creatively using our resources, starting with donations and profits."

G-Dragon is also preparing for a busy second half of the year with a solo performance at Gocheok Dome in Seoul this November, followed by a world tour.
