Composed by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, 'Madame Butterfly' is an opera about the love between an American officer and a Japanese woman set during Japan's opening period at the end of the 19th century. As it is set in Japan, the characters wear kimono, and in the scene of the wedding ceremony, Kimigayo, the national anthem of Japan, flows out.
Viewers criticized KBS for sending out the Japanese-colored 'Madam Butterfly' as the first broadcast of Liberation Day.
