The Seoul Western District Court sentenced Choi (28), a former idol group member, to one and a half years in prison on the 30th on charges of violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act (filming using cameras and distributing them).
In addition, 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programs were completed, and children and youth-related institutions were ordered to restrict employment for three years. Immediately after the sentence, Judge Hong arrested Choi in court, saying there was a possibility of fleeing.
The court said "Illegal photographing of the victim's naked body is a content that causes extreme sexual shame, and illegal photographing can cause irreversible damage to the victim if circulated."Choi made a criminal deposit, but the victims expressed their refusal and pleaded for severe punishment." he said.
"However, the fact that no filming has been circulated and that there is no history of being punished as the same type was considered."," he explained the reason for the sentence.
Choi is accused of filming several scenes of sexual intercourse with A, who was dating from July 2022 to May 2023, and major body parts. Choi was found to have illegally taken photos with a silent camera application installed in advance after encouraging the victim to have sex with an eye patch. There are as many as three victims.
In response, the prosecution demanded a three-year prison term for Choi in May. However, Choi appealed for leniency, saying, `I felt with my whole body that I had done something pathetic and should not have done.'
Meanwhile, Choi is a five-member idol group that debuted in 2017 and was suspended for health reasons in 2019. The group to which Choi belongs is also not active now for reasons such as membership departure.
