Cube Clarifies Controversy Surrounding Soyeon's Performance and Contract Renewal

Cube Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as Cube) has addressed the recent controversy surrounding Jeon Soyeon of (G)I-DLE.

On the 6th, Cube posted on its official SNS page, stating, "Some media reports about the stage performance of Soyeon's solo song 'Is this bad b****** number?' are not true, and we have not communicated any official position."

"We apologize for any concern caused to our artists, Soyeon and (G)I-DLE, due to the spread of individual opinions presented as official statements. We were aware of the stage performance and lyrics in advance," Cube explained.

Additionally, Cube admitted, "The mentioned time refers to the end of the contract, and we are smoothly discussing the renewal."

The controversy began during the (G)I-DLE world tour 'i-Dol' Seoul performance held at KSPO DOME in Olympic Park, Seoul on the 3rd. During Soyeon's solo performance of 'Is this bad b****** number?' she referenced her contract ending in November with straightforward lyrics like, "Who's stopping me?" and "Why should I care?" This drew significant attention.

In response, a Cube official initially stated, "The members' contract renewal date is next year, and the lyrics were only part of the performance. The unexpected behavior of Jeon Soyeon was not discussed with the company." However, suspicions were raised when the phrase 'November contract termination' appeared on the electronic display during the performance, suggesting the company had prior knowledge.

Eventually, Jeon Soyeon herself addressed the issue.

On the 6th, Soyeon wrote on her personal account, "The performance did not contain falsehoods or hide anything from the company. Rehearsals were conducted multiple times in front of us, and we prepared them together."

She continued, "Despite being with the company for over 10 years, I don't feel negatively towards them after reading the media reports. Words can be misrepresented and differ from intentions. However, this situation highlighted our company's inadequacy in responding appropriately. I will continue to work hard to grow together with the company, and I hope the uncomfortable feelings such as worries and hate will fade."
