KBS prepared for the Paralympics broadcast by continuing the slogan of the Paris Olympics 'Together Ensemble'All-time'. First, Kim Kwon-il, a senior researcher at the Korea Sports Policy Institute, Hong Seok-man, a former member of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), and Nam Hyun-jong, a castor, will broadcast the opening ceremony of the Paris Paralympics live for 215 minutes on KBS 1TV at 2:50 a.m. on the 29th. The opening ceremony will also be held outdoors for the first time in Paralympic history, raising expectations.
Starting with the opening ceremony, KBS will present a total of 2,460 minutes of terrestrial broadcasting, the longest ever in the competition. This is 415 minutes longer than the 2,045 minutes of the last Tokyo Paralympic Games, and it is even more meaningful that sign language broadcasts will be performed in all games appearing on terrestrial broadcasts. KBS is the only broadcaster in Korea to send Paralympic broadcasting staff to Paris.
During the tournament, KBS is also planning to organize occasional events in consideration of the game time and performance of the Korean team. It will also strengthen live broadcasting through the YouTube account of 'KBS Sports'. In particular, it will focus on major games and finals in which Korean players compete, and will show live broadcasts of commentators. Games that cannot be broadcast on two terrestrial channels and YouTube will be covered by KBS' free OTT service 'KBS+'.
Commentator Kim Kwon-il (senior researcher at the Korea Sports Policy Institute), who will broadcast the major events of the upcoming event as well as the opening ceremony, said, "The Paralympic broadcasting is another exciting event for me. The change of the Paralympic Games, which allows us to see the development of our athletes, is always new."," he said. We also hope that changes in the world will always be a catalyst for positive change for us"He also expressed his sense of duty.
Commentator Hong Seok-man, a former member of the men's wheelchair track and field team at the 2004 Athens Games and 2008 Beijing Games, said, `It is also difficult to think that my story told through the broadcast should be positive for the Paralympics and the sports of the disabled in Korea.' He expressed hope that "The Paralympics is still unfamiliar to the public, but I hope it will be an opportunity to get a little closer to the public now, just like the Olympics."
The 2024 Paris Paralympics will be held from August 28 to September 8 (local time), with 549 detailed events in 22 sports. More than 4,400 people from 182 countries will participate. South Korea has dispatched a total of 177 players (83 players and 94 executives) in 17 sports, including boccia and goalball. Choi Yong-beom (Canu) will be the flag bearer of the South Korean team. Canoe (Choi Yong-beom participated) and Triathlon (Kim Hwang-tae participated) are the first events of the Paralympic Games for South Korea.
