A shocking incident occurred in which a director-level staff member A strangled a broadcast writer B while filming an entertainment program.

According to the Hanbit Media Labor Human Rights Center (hereinafter referred to as the Hanbit Center) and the Broadcast Writers Branch of the Korean Press Workers' Union (hereinafter referred to as the Broadcast Writers Union) on the 10th, Mr. A shouted at the main writer and took a threatening attitude while filming an art entertainment program in Busan on June 30. Mr. B tried to stop Mr. A, and Mr. A threatened Mr. B by strangling him with his hands in anger.

Other staff and non-celebrity performers at the scene also witnessed the scene. Since then, six of the broadcast writers have demanded that A take action, but the production company has replaced all of the writers on July 9. They are not even paying wages.

The Hanbit Center said "The actual state of labor laws in the entertainment sector is a mess" and "Just looking at the cases filed with the center this year, the amount of overdue wages for about 80 employees in nine places alone reaches 600 million won."

It is more common to work without writing a contract. He added, "The reality is that we are not properly protected by the labor law just because it is not a labor contract and because the commuting time is irregular."

The Hanbit Center and the Broadcasting Writer Union will hold a press conference in front of the Seoul Southern Branch of the Seoul Employment and Labor Office at 10 a.m. on the 11th to report assault, contract termination, and wage arrears of art entertainment programs. Writers who are victims will participate in this press conference, and a petition will also be submitted to the Labor Office.
