Jennie Stuns in Daring Pictorial While Addressing Recent Smoking Controversy

BLACKPINK's Jennie surprised fans by unveiling an unconventional pictorial.

On the 19th, Harper's Bazaar US released a pictorial and interview featuring Jennie. She donned a daring see-through dress without a bra, showcasing various bold concepts, and introduced a leather bra that barely covered essential areas.

In her interview with Harper's Bazaar, Jennie candidly addressed the recent controversy regarding indoor smoking. The media noted, “Romantic relationships and smoking are off-limits for Korean idols,” citing concerns that such actions might interfere with fans’ emotional connection. Jennie acknowledged, “Privacy is a luxury for BLACKPINK; even the smallest action of a member can spark an incident.”

In response to a video showing her smoking indoors in Italy, which prompted immediate official apologies, Jennie remarked, “What can I do? If Koreans think it’s wrong, I have to correct it.” She emphasized the importance of understanding fans’ concerns, saying, “I understand why you’re upset. It’s about Korean culture, history, and the times we live in. I can’t go against societal expectations.”

Earlier in July, a short video titled "Jennie Indoor Smoking" circulated on social media, showing Jennie surrounded by staff while getting her makeup done. In the footage, she appeared to hold an object believed to be an e-cigarette. The video was part of a vlog shared on Jennie's YouTube channel, documenting her debut as a runway model during JACQUESMUS' 15th anniversary collection show, LA CASA, held last month in Capri, Italy, but it was deleted shortly after the smoking controversy arose.

Following the backlash, Jennie's independent label, Odd Atelier, issued an apology, stating, “We sincerely apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie's actions in the content released on the 2nd.” They acknowledged that Jennie is reflecting on her indoor smoking and has reached out to the staff affected by secondhand smoke to apologize.

“I’m sorry to the fans who might feel disappointed. I will repay you with more mature and better performances,” she said, bowing her head in apology.
