Coldplay's second performance in Korea in 2017 will be held at Goyang Stadium in April next year, hosted by MBC and Live Nation Korea.
Consisting of Chris Martin, vocalist/piano, Johnny Buckland, guitar, Guy Berryman, bass, and Will Champion, drum, Coldplay is one of the most successful bands and most influential artists of the 21st century, captivating the public and critics at the same time through various musical attempts. Coldplay continues its most successful career as a band, with more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, seven Grammys and nine Brit Awards, including nine full-length albums to date, as well as spreading good social influence by continuing its eco-friendly steps for sustainable performances.
When Coldplay's 'Music of the Spheres' tour Asia schedule was released last year, Korean fans were disappointed that Korea was not included, but fans who have been waiting for Coldplay's visit to Korea are paying keen attention to the event, finally confirming the schedule for performances in four regions, including Korea, the United Arab Emirates, India and Hong Kong, in 2025. This concert in Korea is scheduled to be the first live stage in eight years since its first visit in 2017 and the largest single concert hall by a single artist in Korea, and MBC and Live Nation Korea, which successfully held U2's first concert in Korea in 2019, will once again join forces to give fans a monumental moment that will go down in history. As MBC hosts this performance, collaboration with various programs such as Bae Chul-soo's Music Camp and MBC News Desk is also expected while Coldplay members stay in Korea.
Coldplay first visited Korea in 2017 with the world tour 'A Head Full of Dreams'. At that time, fans responded to Coldplay's first visit to Korea, with the concert ticketing site paralyzed, the number of concurrent users exceeding 900,000 and additional performance sessions. The first two-day concert in Korea at Jamsil Sports Complex's main stadium was held in the heat of constant chanting and shouting from fans, with more than 100,000 people filling the venue, the largest number of audiences ever, with all seats sold out. Chris Martin, who performed the 'South Korea Song" stage prepared for Korean fans and continued singing with the Korean national flag wrapped around his body, knelt down at the last minute of leaving the stage, kissed the national flag, and thanked the Korean fans deeply, leaving an unforgettable lingering image for both artists and fans.
In 2021, he released a single 'My Universe' containing Korean lyrics with BTS, topping the Billboard Hot 100 in the first week of its release, and in 2022, he participated in Jin's solo single 'The Astronaut' and became a hot topic. At the American Music Awards, Jean performed a joint performance of 'My Universe' and took the stage as a special guest at Coldplay's Argentine performance. In addition, Chris Martin has recently maintained a strong relationship by singing Korean lyrics and delivering affectionate greetings to BTS members whenever he presents collaborative songs on various performances such as the Glastonbury Festival.
In this performance, Coldplay will present a fantastic 'Stadium Show' that fills the large stadium with a setlist covering representative hits such as 'Yellow', 'Fix You', 'Viva la Vida' as well as the latest singles such as 'feelslikeimfallinginlove' and 'WE PRAY' and a spectacular stage production using colorful lasers, fireworks, and LED bracelets. In addition, as an undisclosed guest has been announced, fans are looking forward to whether Coldplay and BTS's collaboration stage will be held for the first time in Korea.
Coldplay's performance in Korea will be held four times at Goyang Stadium on April 16, 18, 19, and 22 at 8 p.m. on April 16, 2025.
