At 4 p.m. on the 25th, the Seoul High Court will hold the third trial of the appeals court against Park Soo-hong and his spouse Lee, who were indicted on charges of violating the law on aggravated punishment for specific economic crimes.
Park Soo-hong's brother and his wife are on criminal trial for embezzling a total of 6.17 billion won, including company money and Park Soo-hong's personal funds, in the process of taking charge of Park's management for 10 years from 2011 to 2021.
Earlier in February, the first trial court sentenced Park Soo-hong's brother, Park, to two years in prison on charges of embezzlement under the Specific Economic Crimes Aggravated Punishment Act. At that time, the court believed that Park embezzled about 700 million won and 1.3 billion won, respectively, from the entertainment agencies Lael and Media Boom, which were run by Park.
However, Park was found not guilty of charges that he stole about 1.6 billion won of Park Soo-hong's personal funds. It was judged that there was no evidence that his brother-in-law Lee also conspired to commit embezzlement.
However, Park objected to the first trial's ruling and submitted an appeal. The prosecution also appealed, leading to a court battle.
Prosecutors initially demanded Park and Lee serve seven and three years in prison, respectively. The first trial court acquitted Park Soo-hong's brother of some of the embezzlement money for the victim, and acquitted him of all of them on the grounds that it was difficult to admit his complicity with his brother-in-law Lee", he pointed out.
And "However, the evidence is clear that the defendants used funds arbitrarily for personal gain, and it is fully acknowledged that they conspired."The sentence for his brother Park is too light in light of the nature of the crime" he insisted.
Park Soo-hong also said at the last hearing, `It's my fault that I didn't know, but I was so horrible that I wanted to die after opening the lidHe appealed that ""With the sacrifice of one person as collateral for the interests of others, even if it is a family member, it should never happen.""
