'Seungil Park, a former basketball player, dies after battling Lou Gehrig's disease for 23 years.'

Park Seung-il, co-chairman of the Seungil Hope Foundation, who has been pushing for the construction of Korea's first Lou Gehrig nursing hospital with singer Sean, passed away on the 25th. He was 53.

The Seungil Hope Foundation announced on its official account on the 25th that Park Seung-il, co-chairman of the Seungil Hope Foundation, who informed Korea of a rare disease called Lou Gehrig's disease, and worked hard for the construction of the Lou Gehrig's Nursing Hospital and many patients and their families, has left behind a 23-year long illness. After graduating from Yonsei University, the deceased joined Kia Motors' basketball team in 1994 and has been a basketball player. Since then, he was appointed as the youngest professional basketball coach ever in 2002, but was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease shortly after taking office and has been battling it for 23 years.

In 2011, he established the Seungil Hope Foundation, a non-profit foundation with singer Sean, and has been raising funds for the Ice Bucket Challenge and the construction of the Lou Gehrig Nursing Hospital. Construction of the Lou Gehrig Nursing Hospital began last year and is expected to be completed in December. The deceased attended the groundbreaking ceremony by ambulance in December last year, adding significance.
