The deceased played basketball for Yonsei University and the unemployed Kia Motors. While working as a coach for Ulsan Mobis in 2002, he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease and has been battling the disease so far. In 2011, he established the Seungil Hope Foundation, a non-profit foundation with singer Sean (52, Korean name Roh Seung-hwan), and conducted fundraising activities to build a Lou Gehrig nursing hospital such as Ice Bucket Challenge.
