Yang Jae-woong and Hani's September Wedding Postponed Amid Controversy Over Patient's Death

The wedding ceremony between psychiatrist and broadcaster Yang Jae-woong and singer and actor Hani, originally scheduled for September, has been postponed.

According to a report from Sports Kyunghyang on September 3, Yang Jae-woong announced the postponement but did not disclose a new date for the ceremony. He mentioned that the decision to delay the wedding was a mutual one and not made unilaterally.

The postponement follows a tragic incident on May 27, when a woman in her 30s, a patient at a psychiatric hospital run by Yang Jae-woong, died due to a pseudo intestinal obstruction. The patient, who had been hospitalized for treatment of diet drug addiction, complained of abdominal pain and requested help. However, surveillance footage revealed that nursing staff restrained her and administered stabilizers, leading to her death while she was unconscious. The patient's family has accused the hospital of negligence and filed a police complaint against hospital officials for abandonment and professional misconduct.

Yang Jae-woong has publicly apologized for the incident through his agency, Mystic Story, expressing deep regret and sympathy for the bereaved family. Despite his apology, he has faced significant criticism.

It was later revealed that Yang Jae-woong announced his engagement to Hani shortly after the patient’s death. The bereaved family has criticized his apology as insincere, citing that he did not acknowledge their protests when they occurred.

Additionally, Yang Jae-woong has withdrawn from his role on MBC Radio FM4U's "Kim Ea-na's Starry Night" and has effectively ceased broadcasting activities.
