On the afternoon of the 22nd, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul said it summoned Lee Jin-ho as a suspect of habitual gambling and fraud and is investigating him. The police will focus on how Lee Jin-ho incurred considerable debt and whether he habitually gambling.
Lee Jin-ho, who arrived at the police station at 1:55 p.m. that day, said in front of the reporters, "I'm sorry. I'll be back with a sincere investigation", and then headed to the investigation room. However, he avoided answering the question "Do you admit fraud?"
Earlier, Lee Jin-ho confessed to gambling on his Instagram page, saying, `I accidentally logged on to an Internet illegal gambling site in 2020 and started playing games, and I ended up in a big debt.' He explained "I pulled out of the gamble with the advice of my acquaintances and the fear of work, but I had already received financial help from many."
"I'm faithfully paying off my debt every month, and I'm going to pay off all my debts on my own until I die." Above all, I'm so sorry to those who trusted me and lent me money," he added.
Lee Jin-ho said, "I sincerely apologize to many people who would have been disappointed by my appearance of causing a social stir and trying to hide it"I promise to faithfully deal with the police investigation and pay for the mistakes I made."
According to related industries, Lee Jin-ho is said to have borrowed money from fellow celebrities for reasons such as 'parents' hospital expenses' and 'tax payment'. In the process, several fellow celebrities, including BTS' Jimin and comedian Lee Soo-geun, were reportedly damaged, adding to the shock.
Meanwhile, a civil petition was filed for the National Newspaper related to Lee Jin-ho. The civil petitioner A said, `The actions of celebrities like Lee Jin-ho have a huge social impact,' adding, `Police should thoroughly investigate his habitual gambling and fraud charges" he urged.
He added "Please punish the operators of illegal gambling so that criminals will no longer be active in the popular culture and arts world."
The police will consider additional legal measures after finding out whether Lee Jin-ho is habitually gambling and the exact extent of the damage.
