According to the Seocho Police Station in Seoul, Kim Soo-mi was rushed to Seoul St. Mary's Hospital due to cardiac arrest at around 8 a.m. that day, but she finally died.
Born in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province in 1949, Kim made her debut in 1970 as a third-term MBC talent. He continued his unknown life due to his exotic appearance at the beginning of his debut, but he was greatly loved for playing the role of 'Daily Tusks' in the rural drama The Country Diary, which began airing in 1980. At the age of 32, he played a rural grandmother and became a hot topic because he was younger than Park Eun-soo, who played his son 'Il-yong'.
Actress Kim Hye-ja remembered the deceased and said, `If Kim had been born abroad, Kim would have taken on a much more diverse role,' adding, `His acting was broad, but at that time, he could only be described as a day-lady," he recalled.
In addition to Jeon Won Ilgi, Kim Soo-mi won the MBC Drama Awards for her acting skills as Choi Myung-gil's mother in the 1986 MBC weekend drama Men's Season. Since then, he has had a second heyday in the movies Mapado (2005) and the sitcom Hello and Francesca (2006).
Since then, he has been active in dramas, entertainment, and advertisements as a character of the "greedy grandmother" and has been loved by the public. In particular, he continued his pleasant image by appearing in the family glory series and a number of comedy films.
The deceased was hospitalized in May and July due to health problems and temporarily suspended his activities. At the time, his son, director Chung Myung-ho, explained that there was a health problem due to the overnight shooting, but there was no big problem. Even after recovering from his health, Kim Soo-mi continued her activities by appearing on home shopping broadcasts with the chairman's people. The creative musical Mom, which ended in May, became his last stage.
He is survived by his spouse Chung Chang-gyu, daughter Chung Ju-ri, son Chung Myung-ho, daughter-in-law Seo Hyo-rim, and granddaughter Jeong Jo-yi. The mortuary will be set up at the funeral hall of Hanyang University Hospital in Seongdong-gu, Seoul.
