Celebrity-Only Entrance at Incheon Airport A Controversial Move for Safety

A new "celebrity-only door" will be established at Incheon International Airport.

Incheon International Airport Corporation recently sent an official letter to entertainment agencies, stating, “We plan to implement a new procedure allowing celebrities to use a dedicated departure hall entrance at Incheon International Airport. This measure aims to minimize crowding and will take effect on the 28th.”

The corporation explained, “When artists arrive and depart, crowds often form, including fans, which can inconvenience general passengers and pose safety risks. We ask fans to refrain from visiting Incheon International Airport during these times.”

Recently, actor Byeon Woo-seok sparked controversy during his solo fan meeting tour in Hong Kong, where he was reported to have flashed a camera at ordinary passengers, inspected the business rights of lounge users on the second floor, and attempted to control the gate for the general public, raising concerns about what has been dubbed "Emperor's Security."

In response to such incidents, Incheon International Airport Corporation held a meeting with officials from major domestic entertainment agencies on the 20th to discuss a Celebrity Manual. The corporation requested that celebrities inform them of their personnel arrangements for security, aiming to reduce their time spent in the terminal and maintain order to prevent excessive crowding due to celebrities’ immigration activities.

Measures have also been established to prevent excessive celebrity security at the airport. The airport police will be on standby to manage crowds if 300 to 500 people gather, while additional safety protocols will be activated if attendance exceeds 500. Furthermore, policies have been instituted to file complaints against private security companies engaged in illegal activities, such as damaging airport facilities.

As the news spread, netizens expressed mixed reactions. The creation of a dedicated celebrity entrance is seen by some as preferential treatment, while others view it as a necessary safety measure.
