Lee continued, "I started gambling online by accident in 2020, and accumulated a debt I couldn’t repay. Thanks to the harsh advice of my acquaintances and the fear that I might lose my career, I was able to wake up to reality. But by then, I had already received financial help from many people. I am repaying the money every month and intend to settle this debt on my own, even if it takes the rest of my life."
Later that day, the 'SBS 8 O'Clock News' reported that Lee Jin-ho had borrowed over 1 billion won from fellow celebrities, including BTS' Jimin and comedian Lee Soo-geun.
Additionally, it was reported that Lee Jin-ho borrowed more than 1.3 billion won from a loan company, bringing his total debt to at least 2.3 billion won.
In response, a netizen, Mr. A, submitted a civil complaint to the Kookmin Newspaper, urging an investigation into Lee Jin-ho. Mr. A stated, "Lee Jin-ho is a well-known celebrity, and his actions have a significant social impact. Numerous celebrities and sports stars have already been involved in illegal gambling, causing great disappointment to the public, yet the controversy persists."
He added, "The police must thoroughly investigate Lee Jin-ho's habitual gambling and fraud allegations to prevent lawbreakers from thriving in the world of popular culture and the arts. We also urge severe punishment for those operating illegal gambling houses."
