Taeil's criminal acts have been detailed following his withdrawal from NCT on charges related to sexual crimes.

According to the Chosun Ilbo on the 7th, Taeil was accused of sexually assaulting a woman, referred to as "A," who was intoxicated at the time. The incident occurred in June, and Taeil, along with two acquaintances, was involved. Taeil was summoned by the Seoul Bangbae Police Station on August 28, two months after the complaint was filed, and was transferred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on September 12.

The identities of the acquaintances who were involved in the crime are not known to be celebrities.

A charge of special quasi-rape can be applied when two or more individuals use force, weapons, or take advantage of a victim who is unable to resist due to physical or mental incapacitation. If convicted of this crime, Taeil could face a minimum sentence of seven years in prison or even life imprisonment under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes.

In response to the case, Taeil's agency, SM Entertainment, stated, "It is difficult to provide details as the investigation is ongoing."

Taeil debuted as a member of NCT in 2016 and performed with NCT 127 and NCT U. However, on August 28, SM Entertainment announced, "Recently, Taeil has been implicated in a criminal case involving sexual offenses. Recognizing the severity of the situation, we determined that continuing team activities with Taeil would not be possible. After discussions, Taeil has decided to leave the group." Following this, both SM Entertainment and the remaining NCT members quickly unfollowed Taeil's social media accounts, effectively distancing themselves from him.
