According to Newsis on the 8th, the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office has been directly investigating the case of Lee Young-ae's criminal complaint against Jeong Chun-soo, then CEO of Sympathy TV, in October last year on charges of violating the Information and Communication Network Act (defamation).
Earlier, Lee Young-ae's agency Group A said, `Open Sympathy TV Jung Chun-soo filed a complaint with the Media Arbitration Commission against Lee Young-ae for disparaging her and spreading fake news contrary to the facts, filed a civil suit with the Seoul Western District Court for violating the Information and Communication Network Act.'
The agency then said, `Lee Young-ae would not have sued Chung if she admitted the fake news and apologized.' `We waited for an apology and a suspension of broadcasting for more than a month. Even now, if Chung admits to fake news and sincerely apologizes, he/she has asked his/her legal representative to drop the charges.'
Lee Young-ae donated 50 million won to the Presidential Memorial Foundation in September last year to build the Presidential Memorial of Rhee Syng-man. In a video titled Kim Gun-hee, Lee Young-ae, and Kim Haeng', Gonggam TV claimed that Lee Young-ae's donation was due to her friendship with Kim. The video has now been closed to the public.
The complaint was first filed at Yongsan Police Station, but was later transferred to Yangju Police Station in Gyeonggi Province. The Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office, which took over the case from the police, decided not to prosecute in June due to lack of evidence. However, Lee Young-ae appealed again, and the Seoul High Prosecutor's Office accepted it and ordered a comeback investigation in August.
In the trial held so far, Lee Young-ae claimed to have suffered losses due to defamation by false facts, while former representative Jeong Cheon-soo refuted that the information was not false and that it was for the public interest and was not illegal.
