ROSE 'Apartment' It's definitely a hitLaughing in vain at the controversy over plagiarism

Group BLACKPINK Rosé is embroiled in a controversy over plagiarism.

Recently, some netizens raised suspicions that 'apartment' released by Rosé and Bruno Mars on the 18th is similar to 'Sorry, I Can't Be a Good Child' released by Japanese singer-songwriter Miku Sawai on November 13, 2013 (ごめんね、いいコじゃいられない。). 'Sorry, I Can't Be a Good Child' is a song that was very popular at the time of its release, ranking 37th on Japan's Oricon Chart. However, there was an opinion that the 40-second main melody of the song and the 33-second main melody of 'apartment' were similar.

However, the melody of 'apartment' has a typical '90s pop song feel, but the overall chord progression itself is different. Moreover, it is almost impossible to find a song without similar parts by comparing only a part of it. In order to distinguish the actual 'plagiarism', the score must be the same at least 8 bars, but 'apartment' and 'I'm sorry, I can't be a good kid' are not applicable to this.

The song "Apartment" is an interpolated version of "Hey Mickey" released in 1981 by Tony Bazel. If 'apartment' and 'I'm sorry, I can't be a good kid' are similar enough to have a plagiarism controversy, 'I'm sorry, I can't be a good kid' means 'Hey Mickey' has been plagiarized.

Most netizens also say "'Apartment' must have popped up' is a ridiculous claim", "Anti's forced logic" and "Is it the Japanese's argument?" responded absurdly.

'apartment' is the pre-released single from Rosé's first solo studio album, inspired by the Korean drinking game 'apartment game'. The song is gaining global popularity as it topped major domestic music platforms such as Melon Genie Flow within a day of its release, as well as topping Spotify's U.S. charts for the first time as a Korean solo female artist, and entering the fourth place on the main chart of the U.K.'s official chart. The music video is also drawing attention, surpassing 100 million views in five days after its release.

Accordingly, 'Apartment' ranked first on Mnet 'M Countdown' and SBS 'Inkigayo' without broadcasting activities, and Bruno Mars responded "Thank you so much to Korean fans for the news of 'M Countdown'. I cried all morning for my first music show," he said in Korean.
