Sung Yu-ri, a member of Fin.K.L, is facing controversy as her husband, Ahn Sung-hyun, has been sentenced to seven years in prison by the prosecution. Ahn, a professional golfer, is on trial for allegedly receiving billions of won in illegal favors in exchange for listing a cryptocurrency.

According to the legal community on the 31st, the prosecution demanded a seven-year prison sentence for Ahn during a hearing on the 29th at the Seoul Southern District Court's Criminal Agreement Department 11. In addition to the prison term, they requested a fine of 2 billion won, confiscation of two luxury watches, and an additional fine of 1.5 billion won.

Prosecutors also sought a five-year prison sentence for Lee Sang-joon, the former CEO of Bithumb Holdings, who was indicted alongside Ahn. Lee is facing a forfeiture of 30.5 million won and a fine of 1.525 billion won.

Legal experts believe that Ahn faces a high likelihood of imprisonment due to the prosecution's substantial demands. Kang Jong-hyun, a businessman who sought the listing, was sentenced to one and a half years in prison, while Song, an official at the coin issuing company, received an eight-month sentence.

Ahn and former CEO Lee are accused of accepting billions of won from Kang in September 2021 in exchange for requesting the listing of a coin on the Bithumb exchange. They reportedly received 3 billion won in cash, two luxury watches worth 400 million won, and 11.5 million won in luxury restaurant membership cards from Kang and Song. Additionally, CEO Lee is accused of receiving luxury goods valued at approximately 44 million won, including 30 million won luxury bags and high-end clothing from Kang.

Ahn is also charged with stealing 2 billion won (under fraud laws related to the Specific Economic Weighting Act) by misleading Kang into believing that former CEO Lee required 2 billion won to expedite the listing request. Both Kang and Song were indicted without detention on charges related to breach of trust.

The court is scheduled to announce the sentencing at 2 p.m. on December 26 at the Supreme Court. Ahn debuted as a professional golfer in 2005 and served as the national golf team's standing military coach from 2014 to 2018. He married Sung Yu-ri in 2017.

Earlier, on New Year's Day 2024, Sung Yu-ri found herself embroiled in controversy after her husband, professional golfer Ahn Sung-hyun, was indicted without detention on charges of fraud related to alleged backtrading involving the cryptocurrency.
