Lee Hong-gi Drops 'Shield' for Choi Min-hwan Amid Controversy

Lee Hong-gi’s ‘shield’ for Choi Min-hwan has been lifted.

On the 7th, Lee Hong-gi posted a promotional poster for FTIsland's upcoming 'Love in Seoul 2024' concert, scheduled for the 24th. Notably, the poster only features Lee Hong-gi and Lee Jae-jin, as Choi Min-hwan is absent. Choi suspended his activities following allegations related to prostitution.

Choi's ex-wife, Yul-hee, a former member of LABOUM, disclosed a transcript last month alleging that Choi had sexually harassed her during their marriage. The transcript, which included a conversation between Choi and a business associate, sparked controversy as it suggested circumstances pointing to potential involvement in prostitution.

In response, Choi Min-hwan withdrew from KBS2's 'Superman is Back' and paused his activities with FTIsland. After discussions on the band’s future, FNC Entertainment announced that FTIsland will continue as a duo (Lee Hong-gi and Lee Jae-jin) for the time being.

However, Lee Hong-gi faced significant backlash for repeatedly defending Choi Min-hwan. He commented, "This was his personal life. He needs to acknowledge his mistakes and apologize, but we shouldn’t believe everything so quickly. We have to protect him; that’s who we are." Responding to a fan criticizing Choi’s actions, Hong-gi angrily replied, "What if it's not prostitution? Can you take responsibility for your words?"

During the ‘Grand Mint Festival 2024,’ Lee Hong-gi added, "It’s been depressing, like the world is going crazy, but I’m thankful. I’ll keep making music until the day I die." This statement stirred further controversy.

FTIsland will continue its two-member performances at the upcoming 'KHNP Music Festival' and solo concerts.
