The late Kim Ki-duk's 4th anniversary Me Too controversy today (11th) → He died lonely abroad

It has been four years since the late film director Kim Ki-duk passed away.

Director Kim Ki-duk died of complications from COVID-19 on December 11, 2020, somewhere in Latvia.

The obituary of the deceased was reported in Korea at the time by local Latvian media Delphi, who reported that the deceased died of complications from COVID-19 at a local hospital on the same day.

Director Kim Ki-duk made his debut in the 1996 film 'Crocodile'. Since then, he has directed 'Island', 'Spring Summer Fall Winter and Spring', 'Samaria', 'Empty House', 'Pieta'.

He was also invited to the Berlin Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, and the Venice Film Festival to win awards.

In particular, he won the Silver Bear Award, the 54th Berlin International Film Festival's directorial award, in 2004 for 'Samaria', and the Silver Lion Award, the director of the Venice International Film Festival, for 'Empty House' that year. In addition, he won the Cannes International Film Festival's Notable Eye Award for 2011 'Arirang' and the Golden Lion Award for the highest honor at the 69th Venice International Film Festival in 2012 'Pieta'.

However, his glamorous film life faced a crisis in 2018 due to the Me Too controversy. Actor A, who was appearing in the movie 'Mobius' at the time, was sued for assault and coercion. The prosecution cleared director Kim of charges related to sexual violence due to insufficient evidence and summarily indicted him on charges of assault with a fine of 5 million won.

MBC's PD Notebook aired testimony from actors accusing director Kim Ki-duk of sexual harassment through the episode of 「The Face of the Master」 in 2018, and director Kim filed a lawsuit for 1 billion won in damages against broadcasters and actors, saying MBC defamed him by broadcasting based on false claims, but lost.

Since then, the deceased, who was active overseas, has been invited to the non-competitive section of the 2022 Venice International Film Festival, with 'CALL OF GOD, which was filmed in Kyrgyzstan at the time.
