The Seoul Western District Court's Criminal Chamber 9 will hold a sentencing date for Park Soo-hong's brother-in-law Lee, who was indicted on charges of defamation under the Information and Communication Network Act on the 11th.
Park's brother and his wife are on trial for embezzling billions of won in company money and personal funds while running Park's agency from 2011 to 2021. Separately, Park Soo-hong and his wife Kim Daye sued Lee in October last year on charges of spreading false information and defamation.
According to the prosecution, Lee said in a group chat room, `What Park Soo-hong said is falseHe is accused of defaming Park by spreading false information such as " or "Park Soo-hong is living with a woman" and posting it on an online community. In the final trial, the prosecution said "The crime is not light and does not deny and reflect on the allegations. No measures have been taken to recover the victim's damage"He demanded a 10-month prison term for Lee.
In response, Lee cried in his closing argument and appealed for unfairness. He has lived as an ordinary homemaker for 20 years, but he has been driven to embezzlement by one comment"The children are being blamed and the daughter is undergoing psychiatric treatment. It's very hard, but I'm holding on." he asked for leniency.
Lee's lawyer argued that `The remarks made in the group chat room were not intended to slander but to explain the situation, which only appealed to acquaintances for criticism and injustice against their children.' In addition, regarding the remarks related to cohabitation, Lee protested that "Lee spoke based on what he heard from his parents-in-law and personal witness, and there was no reason to believe that it was false.'
The defense attorney then said "The defendant should be acquitted. Even if he is found guilty, please consider that the remarks were made in an extremely difficult situation without a criminal record.
