On the morning of the 11th, the Seoul Western District Court sentenced Park Soo-hong's brother-in-law Lee, who was accused of spreading false information about Park Soo-hong and his wife, Kim Daye, to a fine of 12 million won.
The court said "It is recognized that what the defendant sent to the group chat room is false, and even if he believed it to be true, it is difficult to say that there is a justifiable reason.", he explained the reason for the ruling. "In a legal dispute situation, spreading articles that slander the victim in order to gain public attention is a bad crime. "The damage continues due to false facts remaining on the Internet, but the defendant did not ask for forgiveness from the victim."," he said, explaining the reason for his sentencing.
Park Soo-hong and his wife sued Lee for defamation in October last year. According to the prosecution, Lee is accused of sending false information to a Kakao Talk group chat room that Park Soo-hong lived with a specific woman during her broadcasting activities. At the final hearing, the prosecution demanded a 10-month prison term for Lee, saying the victim wants to be severely punished for failing to reflect on the celebrity's reputation," he stressed.
In response, Lee said "I didn't mean to be sarcastic. The accused spoke based on what he witnessed firsthand and what he heard from his parents-in-law and believed this to be true", and denied the allegations altogether.
In closing arguments, Lee has been living as an ordinary homemaker, but was branded as an embezzlement by one comment, and his daughter is traumatized and receiving treatment," he said, appealing for leniency.
Meanwhile, Park's brother and his wife are also accused of embezzling Park's company money and personal funds worth about 4.8 billion won. In the first trial, Park, Park's brother, was sentenced to two years in prison, but Lee was found not guilty and an appeals court is currently underway.
