Areum Appeals Suspended Sentence for Child Abuse and Defamation

Arum, a former member of the group T-ara, who was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence for child abuse and defamation, objected to the first trial ruling and appealed to the court.

Arum filed an appeal against the first trial's ruling through her legal representative on the 23rd.

Earlier on the 16th, the Ansan Branch Criminal Chamber 9 (Chief Judge Yoon Sang-do) of the Suwon District Court held a sentencing date for Arum and sentenced him to August in prison with a two-year suspended sentence.

Arum was put on trial on charges of emotionally abusing a child, such as swearing at his ex-spouse in front of his children, and defaming Mr. A, who disclosed a court ruling on Mr. Lee's boyfriend, B, on Internet broadcasting.

Regarding Arum's child abuse allegations at the time of sentencing, the court said "I admit all the charges."It should be greatly criticized for causing serious mental damage to the legitimate custody of the child."

In addition, regarding Arum's defamation, there was no intention of " (slandering victim A), but there was no effort to confirm the facts of unconventional content, so it is judged that there was at least "unwritten intention". In particular, considering the fact that the remarks were made during the broadcast and the relationship with the victim, it is recognized that there is a purpose of slander" he informed.

According to the ruling, Arum was accused of defaming A by saying that the court ruling against B released by A was made (fabricated) during an Internet broadcast on April 5, 2024.

Regarding the sentencing, the court reaffirmed that it did not receive forgiveness from the victim regarding defamation, and regarding child abuse, the execution of the sentence was suspended and sentenced to two years in prison in August, citing the fact that he admitted his wrongdoing, that the victims were handed over to the custody, and that he had no criminal history.

The court also ordered Lee to complete a 40-hour lecture on child abuse prevention.

The court also sentenced his mother C, who was charged with child abuse along with Arum, to a one-year suspended sentence in April.

Arum joined as a member of the tiara in July 2012, but withdrew from the team the following July.

Arum later gave birth to two sons in 2019 when she married a businessman two years older, but announced her divorce last year.

Since then, Arum has remarried with her boyfriend and announced her third birth in November last year. She is now pregnant with her fourth child.
