Former T-ara Member Areum Gets Probation for Child Abuse and Defamation

On the 17th, the sentencing date for Arum was held at the hearing of the Ansan Branch Criminal Chamber 9 (Chief Judge Yoon Sang-do). On the same day, the court ordered Arum to take eight months in prison, two years of probation, and 40 hours of lectures to prevent child abuse.
Arum is accused of swearing at her ex-husband A in front of her children. He is also accused of slandering C, who disclosed a court ruling related to his boyfriend B, on an Internet broadcast.
The court "I acknowledge all allegations of child abuse. It should be condemned for causing serious mental damage to the legitimate custodian of the victim." Regarding the defamation allegations, he also made unconventional remarks, such as "He said he did not intend to slander Mr. C, but the judgment was fabricated without any effort to confirm the facts." It is judged that there was an unwritten intention. In particular, considering the fact that the remarks were made during the broadcast and the relationship with the victim, it is recognized that they have a purpose of slander.
The court also sentenced Arum's mother, who was also charged with child abuse, to four months in prison and one year of probation. Arum's mother was put on trial from 2021 to 2022 on charges of neglecting her grandchildren in an environment where her daughter cursed at A at her residence.
Arum joined as a member of the tiara in 2012, but withdrew after a year. Later, in 2019, he married an older businessman A and had two sons. However, it was controversial that he was filing for divorce from Mr. A in 2023 and was dating Mr. B.
Arum claimed that A abused his children and used domestic violence against him during his marriage. However, the police investigation did not admit A's child abuse allegations.
Arum was later sent without detention in August last year on charges of borrowing about 37 million won from fans and acquaintances along with B and not paying it back. Arum, however, expressed his position that "I never borrowed money for what the hacker did."
Currently, Arum gave birth to the third child with B and is pregnant with the fourth child.
