What's wrong with Jeon Han-gil…Trump's remarks rippled when he should co-win the Nobel Peace Prize

Korean history instructor Jeon Han-gil has sparked controversy by arguing that Yoon Suk Yeol President and former U.S. President Donald Trump should jointly win the Nobel Peace Prize.

On the 27th, Jeon Han-gil posted a video on his YouTube channel 'Han-gil Over Flowers'Letters from Jeon Han-gil to President Trump' He argued in the video that the two leaders should receive a Nobel Prize together on the premise that President Yoon will return to his duties. Yoon's impeachment will be rejected by the Constitutional Court, he said. `The Korean people will safely overcome the current impeachment situation because they have a wise and mature sense of democratization.'

Citing President Yoon's approval rating as the basis for rejecting the impeachment, he was confident that `it will exceed the current 50% and reach 60%, and the impeachment will be rejected soon.' He then asked that President Yoon meet with Trump after his return and create a place to cooperate for inter-Korean relations and world peace.

The video appears to have recorded Jeon Han-gil's speech at a rally against President Yoon's impeachment in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 25th. At the time, Jeon said, `I'm sorry for showing up too late at the anti-impeachment rally"President Yoon said, "I'll take you.""'I chose to sacrifice myself." He then emphasized his support for President Yoon, saying, `Now I know exactly who loves the Republic of Korea more.'

The reason why Jeon's recent remarks are particularly controversial is that his position has changed rapidly. Immediately after the December 3 emergency martial law incident, he strongly criticized "Emergency martial law is crazy", but later changed his attitude and shouted against President Yoon's impeachment, claiming that "The Enlightenment is right, not the martial law".

The reason why he changed his position was explained in a video released on the 24th called 「Appeal to the 2030 generation and the people」. Looking at the media's failure to properly report, the unjust investigation by the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit, the judiciary, the Constitutional Court's unconvincing ruling, and opposition parties' pressure on pollsters, he thought 'This has crossed the line'" he said.

Earlier on the 19th, he posted a video titled 「The National Election Commission of the Republic of Korea caused」, raising suspicions of fraudulent elections, saying, 「The president who declared emergency martial law did not actually fail the election, but was elected」.

While Jeon Il-gil's sudden political remarks are drawing attention one after another, some are questioning why he is showing such a rapid change in attitude.
