On the 20th, the Gangnam Police Station received a complaint from the National Newspaper asking for investigation into Lee Ha-nui's alleged tax evasion and began an internal investigation.
In addition to Lee Ha-nee's alleged tax evasion, the complainant reportedly raised suspicions about the source of funds for high-priced real estate purchased by a corporation as an in-house director. The police will investigate officials sequentially in accordance with the relevant regulations.
Earlier on the 17th, it was belatedly known that Lee Ha-nui had received a high-intensity tax audit and paid a large additional fine of 6 billion won. In response, Lee Ha-nee's agency Tim Hopp said in an official position that `Lee Ha-nee has faithfully fulfilled his duty of tax payment by complying with laws and procedures under the advice of his tax agent. The tax was paid in full as an additional tax due to the difference in perspective between the tax authorities and tax agents, and had nothing to do with deliberate omission of taxes, he explained.
