Actor Lee Young-ae will make her first comeback on the stage in 32 years with the play `Hedda Gabler.'

'Hedda Gabler' will be performed at Magok LG Art Center in Seoul from May 7 to June 8. It is the first time in 32 years that Lee Young-ae has been on the theater stage since the play 'Jajangmyeon' in 1993.

Heda Gabler is an 1890 original play by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen that deals with the psychology of a woman who craves freedom under social constraints and oppression, and is considered an important classic enough to be referred to as 'Women's Hamlet'.

Lee Young-ae plays the title role Hedda, who is elegant on the outside but has hidden anxiety, desire, and destructive nature inside. Heda is a character who marries based on conditions and is bound to freedom. Baek Ji-won played the role of Thea Elbstead, which stimulates Heda's jealousy. Thea's academic companion and Hedda's old lover, the hapless genius writer Ailett Loebborg, is played by Lee Seung-joo. In addition, all actors, including Kim Jung-ho, Ji Hyun-joon, Lee Jung-mi, and Jo Ji-jin, will appear as one cast. The director was directed by Jeon In-cheol, who won the 54th Dong-A Theater Awards for directing.

In particular, Lee Young-ae's 'Heda Gabler' faces off against Lee Hye-young's 'Heda Gabler', who will be on the stage at the Myeongdong Art Theater in Seoul around the same time, drawing attention. Produced by the National Theater Company, 'Heda Gabler' will be directed by Park Chung-hee, the artistic director of the National Theater Company, and will perform from May 8 to June 1. Lee Hye-young, who received the Women's Acting Award at the Korean Theater Awards and the Women's Acting Award at the Dong-A Theater Awards at the premiere in 2012, will return to Hedda for the first time in 13 years.
