The Ministry of Employment launched MBC's special labor supervision on the Oyo Anna case..Examination of the status of bullying and organizational culture

The Ministry of Employment and Labor has begun special labor supervision for MBC in connection with the death of the late MBC weatherman Oyoanna.

According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the 11th, a special labor supervision team jointly formed by the Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office and the Seoul Western District Office arrived at the site from 2 p.m. that day to begin supervision.

Earlier, the Ministry of Employment and Labor instructs MBC to conduct its own investigation and receives related dataAfter reviewing Anna's work characteristics, it was planned to decide whether to conduct special labor supervision.

However, the Ministry of Employment and Labor explained that the bereaved family recently expressed their intention to not participate in MBC's own fact-finding investigation, raised additional damage issues other than the deceased, and filed a petition for special supervision by the labor union.

"Through this special labor supervision, we will closely check various facts about harassment, etc. that are currently being raised, grasp the overall status of the organizational culture, and focus on checking violations of the labor relations law," the Ministry of Employment and Labor said. "We plan to take strict measures if any violations of the law are found as a result of the inspection and actively guide them to prevent similar cases from occurring in the future."

The Ministry of Employment and Labor is also investigating MBC's alleged violation of the Serious Disaster Punishment Act as related charges have been filed. Labor Minister Kim Moon-soo ordered "As it is a matter of the young man's unfortunate death, thoroughly investigate the truth and take strict measures against violations of the law."

Oyoanna joined MBC as a weatherman in 2021, but died in September last year at the age of 28. The news of the deceased's death was belatedly announced about three months later. Later, a media outlet revealed last month that the deceased had taken his own life while struggling with bullying at work. A suicide note worth 17 pages of manuscript was found on the deceased's mobile phone.

The bereaved families filed a civil lawsuit against a fellow weatherman identified as the perpetrator, claiming that the deceased had been bullied for two years.

MBC launched a fact-finding committee headed by outsiders on the 3rd to find out the truth of the death of the deceased. The Mapo Police Station in Seoul also received a related complaint and started to check the facts.
