The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office indicted Taeil without detention on Feb. 28 on special charges of rape under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act.
Taeil is accused of sexually assaulting two accomplices and a drunken woman in June last year. Seoul Bangbae Police Station applied for an arrest warrant for Tae-il and his accomplices after receiving a victim's report in June last year, but the court rejected the request, saying that the need for arrest was low because they admitted the crime. In August last year, the police investigated Taeil and others and sent the case to the prosecution a month later. The accomplices stated to the effect that it was not a premeditated crime. However, Taeil reportedly submitted a medical certificate and a lawyer's opinion without responding to the summons for health reasons.
The special quasi-rape charge is applied when two or more people commit a crime together or use a weapon or dangerous object. If found guilty, he could face up to seven years in prison or life imprisonment. As a result, there were rumors that Taeil possessed a weapon at the time of the crime, but this turned out to be not true.
Taeil debuted as NCT in 2016, but was kicked out of SM Entertainment and NCT in October last year.
