As much as the cause, symptoms vary, such as dizziness, evocation, drowsiness, and weakness in one of the limbs

Recently, the number of dizziness patients has exceeded 1 million. According to the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, the number of dizziness patients stood at 1015,119 in 2023, up about 38% in 10 years from 736,635 in 2014.

Professor Na Seung-hee of the Department of Neurology at the Catholic University of Korea's Incheon St. Mary's Hospital said, "A dizziness occurs when changes in the visual, vestibular, and sensory systems occur, or when a disease occurs in the corresponding organs or central nervous system. "Dizziness is caused by physiological phenomena such as car sickness and seasickness, and dizziness caused by vestibular organ abnormalities such as meniere's disease and vestibular neuropathy, and brain tumors, strokes, Parkinson's disease. He explained, "I have dizziness due to degenerative diseases such as cerebellar loss."

There are various causes of dizziness. ▲Standing hypotension, orthostatic dizziness due to orthostatic tachycardia syndrome ▲ Heart disease, lack of blood flow to the brain caused by cerebrovascular stenosis ▲ Diabetes ▲ Autonomic nervous system abnormalities that can appear in American nervous system fainting ▲Dizziness can also occur with psychological symptoms such as depression, anxiety disorder, or panic disorder.

About 40% of dizziness occurs due to peripheral vestibular organ abnormalities. Otolithiasis is caused by an abnormality in the vestibular organ of the inner ear located inside the ear, which is responsible for the balance of our body. Otolithiasis appears mostly spontaneously, but it can also occur secondary to head trauma or vestibular neuropathy. Irregular lifestyle habits, fatigue, and stress are also the causes. Otolithiasis varies in symptoms and degree depending on the individual. I suddenly feel dizzy without any symptoms, mainly when I lie back, and when I lie down and toss and turn my body sideways. It is also accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Although the duration of dizziness is short and most of the symptoms recover within two weeks, it often recurs and repeats.

Otolithiasis can be treated with otolithiasis by changing the position of the head and moving the otolith into the semicircular duct to the vestibular organ. Vitamin D supplementation can be helpful to reduce recurrence.

Central dizziness is dizziness that results from central nervous system abnormalities such as cranial nerves. In this case, most of the cases are accompanied by symptoms of local neurological deficits such as double vision of objects, hemiplegia in one limb, dysphonia in pronunciation, speech disorders that cause communication problems, and dysphonia. However, there is also a brain disease that only causes dizziness and vomiting, so if the symptoms persist, medical treatment is necessary.

Professor Na Seung-hee said, `It is important to find the exact cause of dizziness as there are various causes.' `We need to identify the cause through neurological examination, vestibular function test, cerebral blood flow test, brain imaging test, autonomic nervous system test, dynamic equilibrium test, etc. and receive appropriate treatment according to the disease.'

Even if the symptoms of dizziness are not severe, it is recommended to receive treatment as much as it can reduce the quality of life in the long run if it is repeated enough to interfere with daily life. In particular, the elderly aged 60 or older are at high risk of cerebral infarction as many people have arteriosclerotic risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, smoking, drinking, and obesity. You must visit a hospital.

Professor Na Seung-hee emphasized, "Most people think of dizziness as a twirling symptom, but if there is a balance disorder that makes it impossible to walk alone even if it is not accompanied by severe rotationality, it is often caused by a more serious disease." "In particular, if cranial neurological symptoms such as limb sensory abnormalities, pronunciation abnormalities, and facial paralysis are accompanied, caution is needed as it can cause severe aftereffects or death due to cerebrovascular disease."
