Boramae Hospital in Seoul maximizes the effectiveness of treatment by introducing the first advanced cancer treatment device at a city hospital

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Boramae Hospital in Seoul Metropolitan Government, which operates Seoul National University Hospital, recently announced that it plans to introduce the first state-of-the-art radiation treatment device (TrueBeam) for the city hospital and use it for patient treatment from August.
Through the introduction of this state-of-the-art cancer treatment device (TrueBeam), the number of patients treated with stereotactic radiation can be increased to up to 10 per day, and the introduction of high-precision multi-leaf collimators will enable high-precision radiation treatment, which is currently only performed in large advanced hospitals.
Since March 2012, the Department of Radiation Oncology at Boramae Hospital has started radiation therapy with one radiation therapy device, and the number of patients has continuously increased, introducing an additional new VitalBeam in 2018. Advanced treatment technologies such as intensity-controlled radiation therapy (IMRT) and stereotactic radiation therapy (SABR) are used for precise and effective radiation therapy.
With the opening of the Boramae Hospital Cancer Center in March 2020, multidisciplinary treatment, in which specialists from different subjects gather in one clinic at the same time, has become more active. Currently, three specialists in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Boramae Hospital are customizing various cancers in their respective specialties, and medical physics professors are also working together to increase the safety and accuracy of treatment.
Director of Radiation Oncology Kim Soo-ji commented, `We are pleased that the introduction of TrueBeam radiation therapy devices will enable Seoulites, including low-income cancer patients, to provide higher-quality, higher-precision radiation therapy than before.'
