A teenage woman who was hiking with her boyfriend in Romania was attacked and killed by a bear.

According to the New York Post and other foreign media, Maria Diana, 19, was hiking with her boyfriend in Romania's Buchezi Mountains when a bear suddenly appeared.

The two called Nola's rescue team for help. In the meantime, the bear grabbed Diana's leg and dragged her down the cliff about 120 meters high.

The situation was captured in a call with the rescue team's headquarters.

Rescuers were screaming that Diana was getting closer and closer""Then her boyfriend immediately shouted 'The bear dragged Diana away"

When rescuers arrived at the scene, the bear was found next to Diana's body. The bear was killed while trying to attack rescue workers.

Diana's boyfriend was psychologically shocked when he witnessed the horrific scene, but was reportedly not physically injured.

In an interview with local media, he said "It was unexpected. If only I'd have been beaten..."I couldn't stop talking.

"Usually bears attack when they feel threatened or there is food, but this accident is unusual," Romanian mountain rescue team leader Sabine Corniou said. "We need to understand exactly what has affected us. Maybe it's the heat, maybe it's the disease that animals are suffering from" he estimated.

"It is unlikely that the bear dragged Diana down the cliff," argued wildlife expert Carmen Strungaru "It is more likely that she fell into the valley as she tried to escape, and that the bear also fell."

Romania, meanwhile, is the largest habitat for up to 8000 brown bears in Europe, with the exception of Russia.
