It was found that cocaine was detected in sharks living in the sea off the coast of Brazil.

According to local media such as Globo, Brazil's Oswaldo Cruz Foundation analyzed 13 sharp-nosed sharks and found cocaine, all drugs.

Concentrations up to 100-fold higher than those detected in previous studies of other aquatic organisms were obtained.

This is the first study to discover the presence of cocaine in wild sharks, and it is a result of finding that drug components are detected more in muscle tissue than in shark liver, the researchers explained.

The researchers estimated that it could be the effect of smugglers dumping large amounts of drugs into the sea before being cracked down.

However, the researchers explained that further research is needed, saying it is not known how cocaine affected sharks' behavior.

The findings were recently published in the journal Science.
