According to local media such as China Dotcom, a tourist taking a walk on a beach in Hainan filmed and posted online several wooden boards on the sandy beach with nails sticking out in the early hours of the 17th.
The tourist emphasized that someone appeared to have left it on the beach on purpose, and that stepping on it without knowing when it's dark could cause injuries.
Experts also pointed out that leaving nail-studded boards on the beach could pose a number of risks.
For example, when people walk on the beach or play in the water, they can be stabbed by sharp nails and seriously injured, and can cause destruction to marine ecosystems, adversely affecting the survival and reproduction of living things.
The Hainan Tourism Bureau did not know why the wooden board was left unattended, but estimated that it could have been placed maliciously by someone.
He then announced that he would strengthen patrols in cooperation with the police to prevent a recurrence.
According to China-related laws, deliberately placing dangerous goods in public places is a crime that threatens public safety.
Such acts can be sentenced to three to 10 years in prison, and it states that if a person is injured, he or she must be criminally liable as well as civil compensation, including medical care, nursing, transportation and other expenses of the victim.
