Hanlim University Kang Sungsim Hospital supports treatment after invitation to Mongolian burn patients who were difficult to treat to Korea 'Hun'

Jul 23, 2024

Han River Sacred Heart Hospital (Hospital Director Heo Jun) of Hallym University invited Damir, a Mongolian burn patient who had difficulty in local treatment due to severe burns, to Korea in May to support free surgery.

Damir, who had been treated for two months, returned to Mongolia on the 15th, recovering.

Damir, who is only two years old, was burned in 2023. As usual, milk was boiling on one side of the yard, and Damir was walking around and playing in the yard. At the moment Damir lost his balance and fell into a pot where the milk was boiling. Damir, who suffered severe third-degree heat burns on his face, chest, and both arms, was transferred to the emergency room of a nearby general hospital shortly after the accident.

He was able to save his life thanks to his quick visit to the emergency room, but the treatment was not easy. Damir, who was admitted to the intensive care unit, underwent several skin transplants.

However, the skin around the thigh and mouth shrank during the process of the wound, making it difficult to even walk or eat. My fingers cringed more and more, and I couldn't sleep at night due to extreme pain. The medical staff said it is no longer possible to treat it, and recommended that they be transferred to a burn hospital for treatment.

Damir's parents then moved the child to a burn hospital in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, to continue treatment. To stand by Damir, the family left their hometown and settled near the hospital. Instead of his job, his father got a job near the hospital and took care of Damir with utmost care. However, as the income decreased and the treatment period was prolonged, economic difficulties only increased day by day. Damir's condition remained flat due to the limitations of medical technology and equipment.

The sad news of Damir reached Korea beyond Mongolia.

Dongdaemun-gu Council, which usually interacted with the Mongolian Small and Medium Business Administration for business, learned about Damir's situation and asked for treatment at Hallym University Han Kang Sungsim Hospital. This is because Hallym University Han Kang Sungsim Hospital was usually supporting surgery to invite overseas burn patients. Upon hearing the news, the hospital decided to invite Damir, and decided to receive full support for the treatment through the Hallym Burn Foundation, a social welfare corporation that previously sponsored the treatment.

Damir, who entered Korea like that, was immediately admitted to Hanlim University Kang Sungsim Hospital.

Professor Lee Jong-wook of plastic surgery performed surgery and transplanted skin to Damir's hands, wrists, and arms. Skin tissue on the broken fingers was removed and sutured again. The face also removed the scarred skin tissue and transplanted the skin again. Through surgery, the construction of the mouth has been eased, making it easier to eat. For two months, it has become more comfortable to stand and walk steadily through rehabilitation.

Professor Lee Jong-wook said, `It is fortunate that Damir, who was in urgent need of surgery, was able to receive the treatment he needed in Korea"I hope you grow up healthy even when you go back to Mongolia."."

Before Damir and his family returned to Mongolia, the Hallim Burn Foundation presented Damir with customized compression clothes for the treatment of burn scars. Compression clothes are worn for smooth recovery of the skin, and are clothes that apply appropriate pressure to the wounded area. It can relieve itching and pain, prevents the flesh from shriveling or swelling, and helps anyone.

The production was made by P.G.Lab. Fiji Lab is a compression clothing company composed of medical staff, social work teams, and burn experiences at Hallym University Kang Sung Shim Hospital. When burn experts such as rehabilitation medicine professors and occupational therapists measure the size of a patient's body, a production team composed of burn experiences makes compression clothes by hand. The customized clothes made in this way contain the production team's experience of recovering burns.

Damir's mother, Mr Satygul, who was given a compression suit, was able to regain hope with the meticulous treatment of the medical staff""Thank you for giving my family strength" he said.

Meanwhile, Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital is a burn hospital designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Since 2009, it has been supporting free medical treatment and invitation surgery for overseas burn patients with the Hallym Burn Foundation. So far, 1,105 patients have been provided with free medical treatment, 97 locally and 59 patients have been invited to Korea.
