Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital begins research on early diagnosis of lung cancer by selecting AI voucher support project
Jul 01, 2024
Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital (Hospital President Min Jeong-joon) will use artificial intelligence (AI) to diagnose lung cancer early and start research to find appropriate treatments.
Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital recently announced on the 1st that it has been selected under the theme of 「Efficiency and Performance Verification」 for the 2024 AI voucher support project organized by the Korea Information and Communication Industry Promotion Association.
The artificial intelligence (AI) voucher support project is a project that promotes digital transformation by paying vouchers to companies that need to apply AI solutions. Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital will participate as the demand company for this project, and Coreline Soft Co., Ltd. will participate as the supplier.
Professor Jung Won-ki of the Department of Radiology at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital will be in charge of the project, while Professor Kang Se-ryeong of the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Professor Kim Yong-hyeop of the Department of Radiation Oncology, and Professor Oh Hyung-joo and Park Hwa-kyung of Respiratory Medicine will participate as co-researchers.
The research team plans to invest 319 million won by November of this year to ▲ streamline lung cancer diagnosis work by introducing AI solutions to assist chest CT imaging ▲ demonstrate the performance and evaluate the effectiveness of AI solutions in actual hospital diagnosis environments ▲ establish a research system to utilize AI solutions.
Lung cancer, which has the highest cancer mortality rate, has difficulty in early diagnosis because there are no obvious initial symptoms. Accordingly, the research team plans to conduct research for actual hospital lung cancer screening and outpatient diagnosis using the world's first domestic lung cancer screening and AI solution that can detect micro nodules and masses at once.
Professor Jung Won-ki "Early diagnosis of lung cancer in the clinical field is very important, and the introduction of lung cancer diagnosis AI solutions will enable us to derive accurate results more quickly."."
Meanwhile, the project will be selected as an excellent case for the AI voucher support project in 2024 and will be announced on the 17th at the Gwangju event matching day of the Korea Information and Communication Promotion Association, which will be held at the convention hall of the Kim Dae Jung Convention Center.
