If you're having a hard time with warts and cold therapy

Warts are a disease in which squishy papules appear due to viral infection. If it occurs on the face or hands, it may be cosmetically stressed, and once it occurs, it spreads well to various parts of the body, and even if it gets better, it recurs well, which is a problem. In this case, oriental medicine treatment, which has been proven effective through research, can be considered. Professor Kim Min-hee of the Oriental Skin Clinic at Gangdong Kyunghee University Hospital learned about the oriental medicine treatment of warts.

Warts are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and are known to develop better in the summer months. This is because the virus not only reproduces better in humid and hot environments, but also increases the possibility of infection due to the high exposure of bare or bare feet in summer. In fact, according to the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, the number of patients treated for viral warts per month from December 2022 to November 2023 increased from spring compared to winter (December-February), and in summer, it increased by more than 27% compared to winter and then decreased again from fall.

The most commonly used method for warts treatment is to remove keratin lesions with applying drugs, lasers, and cryotherapy using liquid nitrogen to remove areas that are visible outside the skin. However, pain is severe during the procedure, it takes time for the damaged area to recover, and scarring may occur. In addition, recurrence is frequent and sometimes it is wider. The rate of spread after the first occurrence of warts or the degree of recurrence after treatment depends on the immunity of each patient.

Children who are difficult to receive the procedure, adults who are sensitive to pain, if they fail to use the treatment area immediately after cold treatment such as feet or hands, or if they are afraid of scarring after the procedure, they can try oriental medicine treatment.

In particular, bee venom acupuncture, which has an excellent virus suppression effect, is used a lot. In addition, outside the body, it directly reduces the hyperbolic skin with saliva and moxibustion, and induces virus death through herbal medicine that enhances immunity in the body. It is more effective because not only the skin lesion itself but also the improvement of immunity can be expected. Acupuncture or moxibustion procedures do not have a large wound after the procedure, so you can use the treatment area immediately, have less pain, and do not leave scars.

The effectiveness of oriental medicine treatment in the treatment of warts has been revealed in several studies.

Professor Kim Min-hee published a case of using a needle this year to cure the sole warts of the foot in the SCI-level journal Explore this year. In this case, it was confirmed that bee venom treatment was performed eight times a week on the sole mantis, which had 16 multiple occurrences, and the mantis was completely removed and maintained without recurrence after four weeks. In addition, the effect of herbal medicine treatment on human papillomavirus, infectious continuous species, and the antiviral effect on the warts virus of bee stingers have been reported.

Professor Kim Min-hee advised, "Korean medicine treatment is not only effective, but also has few side effects."If cold treatment is difficult due to fear of pain, if it is difficult to perform the procedure due to excessive area, if it is difficult to perform the procedure, if the immunity decreases and warts continue to recur, and if a fundamental solution is needed, it is recommended to try oriental medicine treatment."
