A man who fired a gun at a teenager who was playing doorbell ring prank in the United States was arrested.

According to local media such as the News Center Main and the New York Post, a teenager was shot by a homeowner at about 1 a.m. on the 20th (local time) in Cumberland County, Maine.

At the time, teenagers were playing tricks on TikTok to follow the popular 'door knock' challenge, knocking on doors, ringing doorbells and running away.

The homeowner opened the door and fired several rounds with a gun, striking one of the teenagers in the right calf who had mischief.

The teenager was taken to a nearby hospital, treated, and is recovering.

The police are investigating the homeowner on charges of aggravated assault and gun fire.

Meanwhile, there has been a recent trend on TikTok for pranks of knocking on doors, kicking and running away, called the 'door knock' challenge.

Earlier this year, Texas police warned teenagers not to participate in the social media craze, saying landlords could mistake the prank as a robbery and start shooting.
