Kim Yong-sun, the new head of Hallym University Medical Center..."Best for communication and innovation"

Kim Yong-sun, a research chair professor at Hallym University Medical School, was inaugurated as the 19th medical director of Hallym University Medical Center on July 1. The term of office is until August 31, 2026.

Kim Yong-sun, the new medical director, has earned a bachelor's degree in medicine at Catholic University School of Medicine, a master's degree in preventive medicine at Chung-Ang University School of Medicine, and a doctorate in pathology at New York State University School of Medicine.

Medical director Kim has played several major roles at Hallym University and Hallym University Medical Center. He served as a professor of microbiology at Hallym University School of Medicine, director of Ilsong Life Science Research Institute at Hallym University, president of Hallym University School of Medicine, and vice president of medical affairs at Hallym University. Currently, he is the chairman of the Internationalization and Research Reinforcement Committee of Hallym University Medical Center, the chairman of the Hallym University Medical Center's Faculty Personnel Committee, the chair professor of Hallym University Medical School, and the research adviser of Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital.



He also held active academic activities, serving as the president of the Korean Society of Microbiology, the president of the Korean Society of Aging, and the president of the Korean Society of Viruses. In addition, he is a member of the American Society of Virology, the American Neurology Society, the European Union Prion Society, the Asia-Pacific Prion Society, and the Korean Academy of Medicine.

Medical director Kim is an authority in the field of viruses and has conducted many studies on prions, an infectious disease made up of only proteins without nucleic acids. Major studies include 'pathological mechanisms for degenerative neurological changes in prion disease', 'Development of early diagnosis techniques and treatments for prion disease', and 'Exploration of the role of endogenous retroviruses in degenerative neurological changes due to aging'.



Director of Medical Center Kim Yong-sun said, "We will do our best to communicate and innovate so that the five hospitals under Hanlim University Medical Center can create synergy and achieve new changes and leaps."."
