Korea's Underground Idols, They're Starting to Rise to the Ground



On June 28, Hyundai Outlet's Dongdaemun branch Sunken Square attracted a large crowd.

It's to watch "Underground Idol". Underground idol is a Japanese idol performance culture that communicates directly with audiences and fans in the field, not in broadcasting and media. Following this, the performance culture, which began with the first performance in 2017, is so hot that the rental schedule of all venues near Hongdae and Hapjeong is filled with related performances as of 2024.

The largest subculture events in Korea, such as Ilstar Pes and Seoul Comic World, have also recently begun to invite underground idols to the stage, and the scale is getting bigger as the days go by.

They are usually called underground idols because they live in concert halls in the basement, but due to the perception that they are likely to do something vaguely dark, attempts to change their names to "Live Idol", "Indie Idol", "Performance Idol" have been made throughout the industry.

The underground idols who appeared on this day are a total of four groups, "X!DENT", "SEKAKOMO", "WAGAON", and "PROXIMA CLUB", all of which are domestic underground idols with distinct personalities.



Starting with the collaboration with Hyundai Outlet, "Art Factory Entertainment Co., Ltd.", one of the domestic underground idol agencies that organized the event, expressed its confident ambition to make underground idols become one of the pillars of a new culture that will lead the domestic performance industry.
