An elderly man in his 80s who accidentally spilled fish-washed water on a wounded foot in China almost amputated his foot.

According to local media such as Jimu News and related news, an 82-year-old man living in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, recently spilled washed water on his left foot while trimming fish in a barrel.

Since then, my left foot has become increasingly red and painful, and the pain has spread to my calves. Thinking something was wrong, the old man hurried to the hospital's emergency room.

The medical team's examination showed that it was vibrio sepsis.

At that time, the old man had severe foot swelling and his toes had already been paralyzed. Accordingly, doctors performed incision and decompression surgery immediately, and drainage and antibacterial treatment were performed.

Vibrio sepsis is caused by Vibrio vulnificus (Vibrio vulnificus) infection, which is caused by eating seafood raw or undercooked, or when injured skin comes into contact with contaminated water.

It is easy for people with liver disease or those with poor immune function to be infected.

After an incubation period of about 12 to 72 hours, symptoms such as fever, chills, decreased blood pressure, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea occur.

In most cases, skin lesions occur within 24 hours of symptoms, and skin lesions that occur mainly in the lower extremities start with rashes and swelling, form blisters or hemorrhagic blisters, and then gradually expand the scope and progress to necrotizing lesions.

When bacteremia progresses, the mortality rate is around 50%, and when hypotension progresses, it rises to about 90%.

The medical staff who treated the elderly said "If I came to the hospital a little later, my leg was amputated or my life was threatened"Now, he has recovered his health."
