On the 28th of last month, the Department of Neurosurgery (Director Kim Sang-dae) at Ansan Hospital of Korea University held a symposium commemorating the achievement of 3,000 cerebrovascular surgeries and procedures at the Rosetta Hall auditorium on the first basement floor of the annex.
Professor Lim Dong-joon of neurosurgery successfully completed his 3,000th cerebrovascular surgery and procedure on March 13, 2001, starting with the first brain aneurysm surgery in December 2001 and performing coil embolization on a man in his 60s who visited the hospital due to subarachnoid hemorrhage, one of the cerebral hemorrhages.
Specifically, 1,060 craniotomy cases for cerebrovascular diseases such as cerebral aneurysm and cerebrovascular malformations, 1,400 interventional procedures such as coil embolization, and 540 craniotomy cases for hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage.
There are four main types of cerebrovascular diseases: stroke and cerebral aneurysm, cerebrovascular stenosis and obstruction, and congenital cerebrovascular malformations.
At the symposium, case presentations and question and answer questions about cerebrovascular surgery, including carotid endometriomy and radiation surgery treatment for cerebral artery deformity, were conducted.
Professor Lim said, `I remember a lot of difficulties in the late 1990s when I was appointed to the hospital due to a lack of surgical equipment.' `Although there were difficulties, I am grateful to the neurosurgery medical staff who did their best to be here.'
Director of Neurosurgery Kim Sang-dae said, `The neurosurgery was established with the opening of Ansan Hospital in 1985.'" As long as it has a long history, specialized medical staff are employed in various fields such as cerebrovascular disease, spinal disease, brain tumors, and pediatric neurological disease to provide active academic activities and the best medical services." he said.
