Professor Na-young Kim of Bundang Seoul National University Hospital 'Sung Cha Medicine' is published as an English textbook for Springer

Led by Professor Na-young Kim of the Department of Gastroenterology at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, 35 Korean medical scientists and the Korea Center for Gender Innovation in Science and Technology have collaborated to publish a Korean book titled 「"Sex/Gender-Specific Medicine in Clinical Area" in recognition of its academic value.

Sex/Gender-Specific Medicine is a field that studies differences in disease expression according to gender from a comprehensive perspective that encompasses sex and socio-cultural sex by hormones and genes, and is expected to play an important role in realizing precision medicine, which is considered the core of future medicine.

Professor Kim Na-young, who was the first director of the Seongcha Medical Research Institute, established at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital for the first time in Korea, is an authority in this field of gender difference medicine, and in 2022, he published a Korean textbook on his specialty of gender differences found in gastrointestinal diseases. Since then, the book has also been published in Springer in English, attracting a lot of attention.

Since then, Professor Kim has collaborated with 34 Korean medical scientists, the Korean Academy of Medicine, and the Korea Center for Gender Innovation in Science and Technology to widely deal with gender differences in medicine beyond digestive diseases, and this has been an opportunity for gender difference medicine to receive great attention in Korea.

Since even countries such as the U.S. and Germany, which started research in gender difference medicine earlier, did not have textbooks systematizing gender difference medicine in the entire clinical field, Professor Kim has published the English version of the textbook "Sex/Gender-Specific Medicine in Clinical Area", which is considered a world-class publisher after adding and supplementing otolaryngology, ophthalmology, dermatology, and neurological diseases for the past two years to publish it in English.

Professor Kim Na-young said, `Aware of the importance of 'gender difference', which has been overlooked in modern medicine for a long time, is the first step toward realizing true precision medicine.' `We hope that the publication of English textbooks will serve as an opportunity for gender difference medicine to expand and develop into all fields of medicine worldwide.'
