The 2024 「1st Domestic Horse Fair and the 13th Young Horse Racing Competition」, which was held at the 86·88 Horse Racing Center in the Korea Horse Racing Association (Chairman Chung Ki-hwan) for three days from June 25, was successfully completed. A total of 64 horses won in the exhibition and competition held to discover excellent domestic horses, and a total of 140 million won in training subsidies was paid to producers.

Racehorses are in their prime around the age of five, but riders who compete in horse races must be 8 years old or older to fully demonstrate their skills. For this reason, horse riding is defined as a young horse up to the age of seven. In order to produce domestic horses with global competitiveness as well as the horse racing industry, the Korea Racing Association is holding horse races and exhibitions in which young horses under the age of 7 can participate.

The young horse riding competition is divided into dressage and obstacles. At the 13th young horse riding competition, 97 young horses participated in a total of nine events of dressage and obstacles. Among them, Hanhwa Rita Ruchi (Warmblood, 6 years old), a passenger horse owned by Cho Hyun-ji, won the highest obstacle (120cm) event with an excellent performance, drawing attention.

The 60-year-old two- and three-year-old horses from Jeju and inland participated in the sports competition. To see its potential to grow into an excellent ride, professional judges evaluated each horse's body shape and walking. Riding horses showed off their superior ability to train in the 'Free Jumping' section, where horses jump over obstacles on their own without human rise. A total of 60 riders participated, and 46 riders were certified in grades 1 to 3.

At the leisure horse fair, the horses were divided into the 2- to 3-year-old section and the 3- to 7-year-old section to evaluate their qualities as safe riders based on their purity, behavior, and body type. A total of 58 heads participated, 49 heads obtained certification and received training subsidies. Professor Lee Eun-jung (Masa Department of Jeju Hanra University), who is a judge of this exhibition and has a qualification as a self-lancestant, said, `As the competition continues for many years, the level of domestic horseback riding has improved, so I expect future growth," he said, expressing his impressions of the reviews.

During the three-day competition, about 10 passenger horses from production farms found new owners. This shows that product exhibitions and competitions are also functioning as a passenger horse trading market.

The 2024 Korean Horse Racing Competition and the Young Horse Racing Competition will start with Seoul Horse Racing Park in Gwacheon in June, Gumi Horse Racing Stadium in September and Seogwipo Industrial Science High School in October, and return to Seoul Horse Racing Park in November to hold the final round to determine the best young horse of the year. Following last year, the Korean Horse Association plans to hold an auction for horseback riding during the final competition this year to promote information exchange and distribution of domestic horseback riding by production farmers and horseback riding officials.

Chung Ki-hwan, Chairman of the Korean Horse Association, said, `The hosting of the 2024 Domestic Horse Fair and the Young Horse Equestrian Competition will provide an opportunity to inspire farmers to produce and train excellent horses, and it will contribute to the improvement of farm management by promoting distribution through sales promotion.'
